Child Obesity Causes -- An Overview

Defined Tag:

With the increase of child obesity in America, it has been determined that 15% of all children in the U.S.A. currently suffer from obesity. Child obesity can lead to many health issues in the future, including heart disease and stroke, and can also lead other physical, psychological and emotional issues in children. While many people have tried to blame the fast food industry for marketing their food products to children, there are many child obesity causes currently affecting American children.

Essentially, the cause of obesity in both children and adults is consuming too much unused energy. Energy comes in the form of calories in food and for inactive people who do not use the energy through enough physical activity, their bodies store the energy in the form of fat.

According to studies, the risk of becoming obese is greatest among children who have two obese parents. Genetics can play a role in child obesity causes as well as the parental modeling of both eating and exercise behaviors. Heredity can also influence fatness, regional fat distribution and the response to overfeeding. Studies show that infants born to overweight mothers have been found to be less active and to gain more weight by age three months when compared with infants of normal weight mothers, suggesting a possible inborn drive to conserve energy.

Another factor the causes obesity in children is the low amount of energy many children use as technological forms of entertainment become more popular than physical activities. Stationary activities like playing video games, watching television and using the internet require little energy. While children often eat snacks while doing these activities, they constantly consume energy they are not using. Unhealthy eating choices can also cause child obesity, as consuming foods high in fat and calories require more exercise to be burned off. If all the energy is not consumed, your body will naturally store it in fat deposits on the body.

There are many child obesity causes, though the only real cause is consuming unused energy. By making healthier eating choices and living a healthy, active lifestyle, both children and adults can fight obesity and decrease the chances of health and physical complications in the future.
